Yorkshire Terriers continue to be one of the most popular breeds, not only in Spain but throughout the world, and for good reason. They are very good companions and adapt to their owner's lifestyle easily, whether they live in an apartment in the city or in a country house. Although it is a small dog, with a beautiful long and silky coat, the Yorkshire has a great personality and is always ready to take on the world.
They are naturally extroverted animals and were originally bred in the United Kingdom in the mid-19th century, so the breed is relatively new to the dog world.

Origin and history of the Yorkshire
It is a recent breed, originating in the United Kingdom, it first appeared when Scottish wool workers crossed the Halifax Terriers that they bought during their move to Yorkshire and Lancashire (counties in England) in the 1850s along with other types of terriers. . There are no written records of how Yorkshire Terriers came to be, so their origins are not very clear, but they are believed to have an illustrious lineage with the Manchester Terrier, the Skye Terrier and the Paisley Terrier, as well as the Dandie Dinmont and the Maltese, which have been used to create these charming little dogs.
Yorkies were bred to be mousers, something that is deeply ingrained in their nature and remains a strong trait in their characters to this day. The breed was finally recognized by the Kennel Club in 1874.
By 1880, Yorkshire Terriers had arrived in the United States, but the breed varied so much in size that there was great confusion about how big a Yorkshire Terrier could be, with some reaching 6kg. By 1900, it had been decided on both sides of the Atlantic that small size along with a longer coat was preferable. Today, these little terriers remain popular as family pets and companion dogs thanks to their charming appearance and feisty personality.

Character ofthe Yorkshire
The Yorkshire Terrier is the perfect choice for those who decide to have a dog for the first time, because they are very intelligent and always willing to please their owners, which means that they are also easy to train. They can sometimes have a bit of an attitude and be tenacious, but in good hands and with the right amount of socialization, the Yorkie does well living in both an apartment and a large country house. They form strong bonds with a person in the house, whom they always protect.
They were originally bred to hunt rats and rabbits, a trait that is ingrained in their psyche and that owners must take into account when a Yorkie is around animals. They can be very territorial and will defend what is theirs without hesitation. They are prone to barking, which should be corrected when they are still young, and many Yorkies are even known to like the sound of their own voice, but they will also always warn if a stranger is nearby.
They are very affectionate but are not that good with children unless they have grown up together. Additionally, because Yorkies are so small, they run the risk of breaking bones if play is too rough, something very young children may not fully understand. It is for this reason that they are more suitable for families with older children than with young children.
