Origin and history of the Rottweiler
The real origin of the Rottweiler remains a bit confusing. Many people speculate that the breed arose when the Romans purchased dogs during their invasion of Europe and crossed them with indigenous breeds such as the Entelbucher, the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, and others.
Rotties were often found in southern Germany and Switzerland and the breed got its name because many of them were left behind in the cattle trading town of Rottweil in the southern Black Forest region of Germany. His main job at that time was herding and guarding livestock and his reputation for being loyal and brave spread to other parts of the country.
These large, impressive dogs became popular with butchers and were often seen pulling carts. At that time they were known as Rottweiler Metzgerhunds, which translated means Rottweil butcher's dog.
In the 19th century, Germany banned cattle driving, which meant that the need for Rotties decreased and it was not until 1914 that they began to be valued again for their work as war dogs.
Today, the Rottie remains a popular choice, not only for its guarding skills, but also for its impressively gentle and loyal nature, which has seen them find a place in the hearts and homes of many people around the world.

Character ofthe Rottweiler
The Rottweiler is known for being an active dog and needs plenty of exercise as well as mental stimulation to make them truly happy and balanced.
It is essential that Rottweiler training begins early and puppies must be well socialized from a very young age so that they grow into relaxed and more confident adult dogs. It is vital that they are treated with great respect and that positive reinforcement is used when training them. They are known for being self-confident and highly intelligent, which means they quickly pick up on new things, both good and bad. However, in the right hands they are obedient dogs that excel in all types of dog sports activities.
Although a Rottie makes a good family pet, their large size means that you have to be careful around small children. They are a very good option for people who work from home or for families where one person tends to stay home when everyone else is away, as they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time, which can cause a Rottie to develop a condition known as separation anxiety. If left to their own devices, they can become annoying barkers or diggers, and given their size they are capable of carrying out great damage.
A fully mature Rottweiler is an extremely strong dog and can be very demanding as well as arrogant at times. The "guard" instinct is a trait that is deeply ingrained in your psyche.
They are extremely happy when they can be with their owners and will follow them everywhere just to be with them and to check out what is going on in their environment and they hate when they are left out of anything.
