Origin and history of the Pug
The Pug is a breed that has been around for a long time. There are records of its existence dating back to 700 BC. in ancient China, where they were bred and owned by emperors. Common people were not allowed to have a pug and if one of these was found in their possession, the punishment was death. The pugs were so revered that they even lived in their own part of the royal palace and were looked after by their own servants.
They came to Europe when China allowed Dutch explorers to trade in its lands. It is said that sailors smuggled these little dogs out of China and once back home, they were an immediate hit with the nobility and upper classes due to their small size and sweet nature.
Thanks to Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, pugs' ears were no longer cut, as she banned it as she considered it cruel.
During the 20th century the breed lost popularity, but today it has regained its popularity, which can be attributed to the fact that one of these adorable little dogs played the role of "Frank the Extraterrestrial" in the Hollywood film Men in Black.

Character ofthe Pug
This breed is characterized by having a friendly and sweet character. Some people say that sharing a home with a pug is the closest thing to living with a small child, which is true because of their need for attention and their “clown” characteristics. Pugs are very sociable and love to be around people. They don't like to be left alone so they can become a little destructive at home out of boredom and because they develop separation anxiety.
Pugs need more training time than many other breeds as they can be mischievous and mean at times. You should also keep in mind that these little dogs remain puppy-like throughout their lives, so they are a lot of fun to have around. But although they are very affectionate, pugs are not clingy and will also happily go off and do their own thing.
