Origin and history of the Ibizan hound
The roots of the Ibizan hound go back further than 4000 BC. C. They are mainly related to the time of the great pharaohs, since they are represented in many friezes.
It arrived in the Balearic Islands around 1000 BC, with the Phoenicians, its duty was to keep the ships clean of rats and help with hunting when their masters set foot on dry land. It is one of the oldest breeds in existence. They quickly began to stand out for their hunting skills, especially hares and rabbits. It finally settled as a breed in Ibiza, where its name comes from.
Today they are very similar to the dogs of ancient times and the breed has not changed much during the thousands of years they have existed.

Character ofthe Ibizan hound
It is a very affectionate and sensitive breed. The Ibizan Hound and children get along very well, they will be great playmates and friends. The little ones in the house will always be his favorites and he will be sensitive and protective of them. It is an excellent pet in the right home.
Still, it takes them a long time to grow and mature, more mentally than physically. This must be taken into account when training them. It takes a lot of patience and understanding to train an Ibizan Hound, but the effort is well worth it and rewarding. They also need a lot of company, they can suffer from separation anxiety, so they cannot be left alone for many hours.
