Jack Russell Terriers are characterized by being bold, happy and full of energy dogs that love to be surrounded by people. However, because they have so much energy, they need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation to be truly happy.
They need to be in a familiar environment where they are never alone for long periods of time, so they are best suited for homes where one person stays at home so they always have company and thus prevent them from becoming destructive.

Origin and history of the Jack russell terrier
Jack Russells originate from the United Kingdom, where they have been highly prized working terriers since the 1800s. They were bred by the Reverend John Russell, who was a hunting enthusiast. He used a specific white-coated Fox Terrier in his breeding program and through careful selection and breeding, a distinct breed emerged. The reverend's goal was to produce a terrier that would easily attack its prey without killing it.
The breed's numbers declined during World War II, after which these charming dogs became more popular as pets than as working dogs.
During the 1960s and 1970s many working terriers, including Jack Russells, were brought to Australia. The breed became very popular at exhibitions in Australia, and there they began to have a different appearance from the terriers in the United Kingdom.
The Jack Russell was not recognized by the Kennel Club until 2016, when a breed standard incorporating both the Australian and FCI standards was established.

Character ofthe Jack russell terrier
Jack Russell Terriers are very lively dogs with a very strong hunting instinct, so they can be quite destructive if they are not handled and educated properly from an early age. They are very confident and bold dogs, kind and loyal to their owners and families, forming very strong bonds with a specific family member. Considering that they love human contact, they will adapt best to a home where someone is always home.
Jack Russell Terriers excel in many dog sports such as flyball and agility, which they greatly enjoy both during training and when competing. They are very intelligent and need a lot of daily exercise and mental stimulation, otherwise they get bored quickly and this leads them to develop some destructive behaviors at home. Additionally, it is worth mentioning that since they have a great prey drive, special care must be taken with where and when you release a Jack Russell Terrier in public places.
