Origin and history of the Great dane
The origin of the Great Dane is German. As an ancestor of the current Great Dane, the old Bullenbeisser (bull catcher in German) should be considered, as well as the Hatz and Saurüden. The breed has more than four centuries of history and has accompanied royalty as guard dogs since its beginnings.
It was the Count of Buffon who christened the breed the "Great Dane" after he had traveled through Denmark, where he saw similar looking dogs that were slimmer. He thought it was because of the Danish climate that the dogs had changed their appearance and decided to name them Great Danes.
The "Danish" part of the breed name was retained even though the Great Dane was in no way developed in Denmark. These beautiful, statuesque-looking dogs were developed in Germany and imported by nobles during the 17th and 18th centuries. For this reason, the Germans changed the name of the breed in the 19th century and called it the German Doge or Deutsche Dogge.
In 1880, at an exhibition in Berlin, a standard for the breed was established for the first time, which over time was modified several times.

Character ofthe Great dane
The Great Dane is a dog with a friendly and outgoing character. They may be imposing to look at, but they are extremely gentle and affectionate. They are a great choice as family pets and companion dogs, although you have to be careful when they are around small children, simply because being so large, they can hit a very small child, even by accident.
It is not at all common for them to show any type of aggressive behavior, even with other dogs. However, they are not the best choice for first-time owners because they need to be trained and handled properly by someone who really understands the breed. His training must begin early and must be constant, otherwise he may become willful and rebellious, which can be a big problem given his size.
He hates being left alone. Therefore, they are more suitable for homes where one person always stays at home.
