Beagles are medium-sized dogs, belonging to the group of hounds. They have been a popular choice as a family pet and companion dog for decades. They have also been favorites of judges and audiences at shows. Although they have retained a strong hunting instinct, they are known for being relaxed and happy in a domestic environment. There is nothing a Beagle likes more than to participate in everything that happens in a home and they quickly become valued members of a family.
They have a very gentle nature and are a real pleasure to have around thanks to their willingness to please without being too demanding, although they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. They are best suited for homes where at least one person stays home when everyone else is out so they always have company.
As fearless as it is affectionate, this little animal will know how to conquer everyone with its floppy ears and its sweet, sad and curious look.

These dogs were only about 22cm tall. and one of the special attractions was that the hunt could be followed even by "ladies, old men or infirm", as they slowly followed the winding path of the hare.
