The Dogo Argentino is a strong, intelligent and agile dog. Bred mainly for hunting large prey such as wild boar and puma. It is also recognized for being an excellent guard dog. Their short, smooth, soft coat is completely white, but a dark spot near the eye is allowed as long as it does not cover more than 10% of the head. Contrary to popular belief, despite their strong and imposing appearance, they are very friendly, sweet, affectionate and sensitive. They love being surrounded by their people and will always be attentive to everything that is happening around them.

Origin and history of the Argentine dogo
This breed is native to the Province of Córdoba, located in the center of the Argentine Republic. Its creator was Dr. Antonio Nores Martínez, eminent surgeon. In 1928, his passion for dogs led him to work on the methodical crossbreeding of several purebreds with the old Cordoban fighting dog, a very strong and vigorous dog, the product of crossbreeding between a Bulldog and a Bull terrier. He crossed with English Bulldog, Great Dane, Pyrenean Mastiff, Bull Terrier, Boxer, Pointer, Dogue de Bordeaux. In 1947 the breed was already created. In 1964, it was recognized as a breed by the Argentine Cynological Federation and the Argentine Rural Society, who opened their “Genealogical Registry”, initiating its registration. Only in 1973 was it accepted by the FCI.
Over time, this ability to adapt has made this dog very versatile in terms of functions; proving to be a noble companion and a loyal and unbeatable protector.

Character ofthe Argentine dogo
The Argentine Dogo is intelligent, extremely loyal and affectionate. They are an excellent life companion since they love being with their owners and will give them all their love. To feel happy they need to be surrounded by their people and there is nothing they like more than to please. His character has nothing to do with his strong and imposing appearance. They are sweet, affectionate and sensitive.
They love to play and are very friendly. It is important to socialize them from an early age, since they have a very strong jaw and they must be taught to control their strength.
They hate being alone, so they will be happier in a family in which someone always stays at home. If they are left alone for a long time they can develop destructive behaviors.
Despite being an active breed and needing a lot of physical activity, if they are given enough exercise they are also very calm and like to be relaxed at home.
Curiosities about the Argentine dogo
Due to its appearance and its past as a fighting dog, many think that it is a dangerous dog. However, this is wrong, and no special permission is needed to adopt it. But, a Dogo Argentino that is not pure and does not have a pedigree could fall into the category of dangerous dogs, since its origins or character cannot be guaranteed.
